Amazon Listing Image Requirements & Sizes
Amazon enforces strict rules on listing images. Get the main image wrong and your listing can be suppressed; get the gallery right and conversion lifts dramatically. Here are the current technical requirements for Amazon India sellers, plus a checklist you can use before uploading.
Technical specifications
| Requirement | Specification |
|---|---|
| Main image background | Pure white (RGB 255, 255, 255) |
| Recommended longest side | 2000 px (enables zoom) |
| Minimum longest side | 1000 px |
| Maximum longest side | 10,000 px |
| Accepted file types | JPEG (.jpg), PNG (.png), GIF (.gif), TIFF (.tif). WEBP not accepted for Amazon main images |
| Color mode | sRGB or CMYK |
| Product frame fill | Product should fill at least 85% of the frame |
| Max additional images | Up to 8 additional images per listing |
Pre-upload checklist
- Main image on pure white background, no props or text
- Product fills at least 85% of the frame
- Longest side ≥ 1000 px (ideally 2000 px for zoom)
- Sharp focus, accurate colors, realistic representation
- No logos, watermarks, borders or promotional text on main image
- Lifestyle and infographic images allowed in gallery slots (2–8)
File types: JPEG vs PNG vs WEBP
For the main image, JPEG is the safest choice — it's universally accepted, compresses well and preserves photographic detail. PNG is useful for graphics with hard edges or transparency, though Amazon flattens transparency to white. WEBP is great for your own site but is not accepted for Amazon main listing images today, so always export a JPEG or PNG variant for the marketplace.
